So far this year, Cincinnati Bengals rookie RB has performed well on the field. Knowing his history and his incident at Oklahoma that saw his draft status fall, Mixon has surprised many by his off field behavior. Not once have we heard of any wrong doings, which is specially surprising knowing the team that drafted him condones criminal activity, by keeping players like Adam Jones and Vontaze Burfict on the roster.
The Bengals lost Sunday’s game against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Afterwards Mixon questioned out loud why he didn’t get carries in the second half and why the team went away from the ground game.
That led to a fierce response from head coach Marvin Lewis “You should show maturity just like everybody else,” Lewis said, via the team’s website. “Everybody wants to be out there all the time. But we’re not going to create a run when we are down by 12 or 15. We’re not going to create it. I saw a ball go on the ground when he received two balls thrown to him, which are the same situation. We got to handle it all the time the correct way, and be strong enough to not be led into questions after the game, which unfortunately he doesn’t know enough about.”
Mixon rushed 7 times for 48 yards, an average of 6.9 yards a carry. He’s a rookie that will learn not to forget that they’re playing on a team and they can’t be focused solely on individual stats. We’ll see if these comments affect his playing time against the Indianapolis Colts next week.
